winston is in the lunchroom at work when his coworker syme joins him. Syme is working on the newspeak dictionary which gets rid of words from their language rather than adding them. Syme thinks that one day reading classic literature and even having a simple conversation will be impossible. They overhear a conversation from across the lunchroom of someone speaking in what Syme calls duckspeak. Winston worries that syme is too intelligent to live in their society because he reads too much, thinks too much, and says things he shouldn’t. They are then joined by Mr. Parson, winston’s neighbor. He tells them about his daughter turning someone over to the thought police and how proud he is of her. During an announcement from the ministry of plenty, winston notices that the dark haired girl keeps looking at him. Winston begins writing in his journal about a time when he hired a prostitute. This is forbidden, and had he been caught he would’ve spent 5 years in a forced labor camp. Sex in this society is discouraged and partners even have to get party approval to get married. Winston is married to a woman named Kathrine who he says is incapable of original thought. Divorce is unlawful, and separation is discouraged, however winston and his wife were able to separate. they havent seen eachother in 11 years. It is revealed that the dark haired girl is a member of the junior anti-sex league. Winston believes all hope is in the working class. He copies down a passage from a children’s history book about the horrors of capitalism into his journal, and wonders how much is true. Many of the original party leaders were considered traitors and many were killed. Some went into hiding, including goldstein. 3 men who survived, Jones, Aronson, and Rutherford, confessed and were temporarily paroled.
Dracula pages 103-118
In this chapter Lucy takes another adventure sleep walking. Mina wakes up to find that she is gone out of the house. She rushes around the town to find her at their designated spot. From a distance, there is a tall pale creature with red eyes where Lucy is. When Mina finally gets to Lucy, she is under the impression that she accidentally pricked her with a safety pin. Mina and Lucy keep the sleep walking incidents a secret from Lucy’s mother, whom is sick. Arthur’s dad is doing well and is excited for the marriage, but bad news is received when Mina finds out Lucy’s mother is going to die. There is still no word from Jonathan.
The most significant part of this section is Lucy being bitten by a vampire, and nobody knows.
After a long night the men wake up and get ready for breakfast and see the cook has cooked for 150 men but there wasn’t 150 men left. They all thought that they could get extra’s but it wasn’t the case and lead to an argument. All of the men are shaken up and stressed out with what just happened to their men. One of Paul’s friends Joseph Behm was hesitant about joining the military but ended up doing so from Kantoreks unrelenting pressure. Joseph was one of the first men to die that day. Paul and his childhood friends were devastated after losing him, some even blamed Kantorek from pushing him to hard to join the military.

We learn in this section of the book all about marriage, divorce, and sex. We learn that Winston does not currently know nor care where his wife is, he only knows that she is not dead. He talks about how it felt like his wife did not love him because every time he tried interacting with her she would react in a bad way. She would always stiffen up when he would come around.
He also is writing in his diary slowly telling another story of a party girl.
Also a pretty interesting quote I found was Winston writing ¨I understand HOW: I do not understand WHY.¨ He also says this line makes him feel like a lunatic

Gulliver’s travels pgs 51-78
I resumed my reading where Gulliver was preparing to leave Lilliput. He is visited by a friend and told of the Emperor and other government officials plans to blind him and then starve him to death. His friend reads him a number of articles being used against him four of which are included in the text. They plan to use these articles to impeach him and then dispose of him because of the personal reasons of members of the court. Upon learning this information Gulliver travels to Blefuscu where he is welcomed warmly. Three days later he finds a vessel off the coast of Blefuscu and is helped by the Emperor of that land to prepare it for departure back to England. Gulliver is gifted an assortment of cattle and other amenities and is sent on his way. After some time he is picked up by an English merchant ship and brought home. He sells his Lilliputian sized sheep and stays with his family for two months before departing in search of adventure once again. And thus ends the first part of the book.
The second part of the book begins by giving a detailed account of the voyage Gulliver departed on. It goes over trouble the ship and crew experienced while abroad. When the ship finally spots land Gulliver goes with a search party in search of drinking water. Having wandered from the group he returns to find the search party has left him behind in their fleeing of a giant. Realizing that he is all alone Gulliver explores a small amount of the area and finds himself in a farmers field where he is discovered and brought to the farm owners home.
The most important thing that happened in my reading today was Gulliver being discovered by the giants.
