Metamorphosis
pg. 101-105
Gregor has everyone frightened by his looks. After the chief clerk sees what Gregor looks like as a bug, he gets scared and starts to leave. Gregor starts to chase after him so that he has a chance to talk to him about his job but is stopped by his dad. Gregor’s dad gets Gregor to go back to his room by hissing and swatting at him with a newspaper. Everything settles down when Gregor is back in his room.
An important event that happened is when Gregor scared away the chief clerk by chasing him. This is important because the chief now sees Gregor as a monster and may not let him keep his job.
The Divine Comedy
82-101
They finally leave Hell and go into Purgatory they speak to a Roman politician and say that Virgil should be in Hell and Dante is still alive. After that an angel leads them up to Mount Purgatory. Later in the Canto souls help Dante and Virgil up the way up the mountain. They keep climining up the mountain and it keeps getting easier I think this is a metaphor for how Purgatory is suppose to work way at the bottom you have a lot of sin and baggage and the more you move up its like repenting.
The most important thing about this to me is how Purgatory works and its not really supposed to be punishment its supposed to be a way to repent until it looks like you reach the heavens and become an angel
1984
pg 82-104
Winston looks at the picture he has of St. Clements Church in Mr. Charringtons room. A symbol to winstons desire for freedom and dreams of it. It represents his want to connect to his past that has been suppressed. One of the words fordshadows whats to come with “Here comes a chopper to chop off your head.” Its hinting at Winstons private rebellions termination.
Significant event. pg 103
O’Brien saying once again, “We shall meet in the place there is no darkness.”

hitchhikers guide to the galaxy
Zaphod is racing around the world that the heart of gold is being created. He shows up and we find out that he has 3 arms and 2 heads. The heart of gold is revealed to be a ship and Zaphod is about to stael it.
Jane Eyre
Pages: 182-242
Summary: Jane is upset about Rochester going away. Her and the servants were gossiping about the girls at the party he was at. Jane is upset and feels she cannot compare to the girls at the party. She believes she is too plain amongst the other girls. She then overheard Rochester and one of the girls talking about Jane. I think it is significant that Rochester is a love interest and he may not be interested in Jane. This could affect her character or show Rochesters character.
A Clockwork Orange
104-118
Alex is brought across the prison yard to a large white building. He meets Dr. Branom and is given a “luxurious” room with numerous amenities. Dr. Branom says the treatment will consist of watching “special films” and that Alex will get a shot after each meal, and he feels lucky about this. After his first shot, he feels weak but thinks it is because of the prison food. Alex is then pushed in a wheelchair to the screening room. They strap his head and hands down and put clips on his eyelids which keep his eyes open. They play a series of films depicting scenes of violence, rape, and torture so intense that Alex feels horribly sick and begs them to stop.
One significant event is when Alex begins his experimental treatment, which seems to try and stop him from enjoying violence

Dracula
pages- 141 to 170
Seward’s inability to diagnose or stem the progression of Lucy’s illness demonstrates the effectiveness of Dracula’s assault on Victorian social order and also exposes the limits of Western science and reason. Only legend and superstition—not reason and science—are effective in fighting Dracula. Even the many advancements of medical science prove useless. Maintaining an open mind and acknowledging the power of superstition, Van Helsing challenges the rigorous confines of Victorian thought. Although Van Helsing proves himself a competent modern surgeon by performing one blood transfusion after another, neither his methods nor his knowledge is restricted to the teachings of Western medicine. As he places garlic flowers around Lucy’s room, he steps outside the role of doctor and becomes more of a “philosopher and a metaphysician.” One of the main ironies of the novel is that the Londoners are made vulnerable to Dracula’s attacks precisely because they live in a world that encourages them to dismiss such supernatural predators as powerless in a civilized society such as Britain.
This is important because it gives insight as to what goes on and how it will progress forward and more of the thought process of characters.
Title: The Picture or Dorian Gray
pages: 78-102 (chapters VII- VIII)
Summary: In the evening, the three men meet at the theater to see the young woman act. She makes a very bad impression, acting in a artificial way, with a false tone. Lord Henry and Basil leave at the end of the second act, but Dorian prefers to stay, while the theater is almost empty. Sibyl is happy with her failure because she understood what love is and began to hate the scene. Dorian becomes detached and reproaches her that in this way she killed his love, leaving Sibyl upset. When he returns home, he notices that his picture is changed: folds have appeared around his mouth which give him a cruel look. He thinks about the desire expressed at Basil’s home, that the picture grows old in his place and he is terrified! The next day Dorian decides to ask Sibyl’s forgiveness, by writing her a letter and asking her to marry him, but Lord Henry informs Dorian of the Sibyl’s death.
Significant event: Sibyl’s death.
The stranger
pages 25-39
We get introduced to new characters in the book. Salamano and his dog live across the landing from Meursault. Salamano is quite old and he beats his dog often when it doesn’t do what he wants it to. The other character that is introduced is Raymond Sines. The word around the neighborhood is that he “lives off women”. In this section Raymond asks Meursault to help him get revenge on his ex for cheating on him. Meursault is hesitant at first but he agrees and they come up with a plan for Meursault to write a letter for Raymond about how he loves her and wants her to come back because he is better at writing than Raymond is and send that letter to his ex so she gets lured in and he can spit in her face last second. The plan works and Raymond ends up hitting her/beating her and the police show up and now Raymond has to go to court. Raymond then asks Meursault to be his witness and Meursault agrees.
One significant event is that Meursault agrees to be Raymond’s witness and say that he can confirm that Raymond’s ex was cheating. It is significant because he only really got to know this man a day ago.
