The Divine Comedy
1-20
So far what I have looked at is this guy named Dante goes into the woods in a midlife crisis it looks like and he discovers his favorite poet Virgil. They walk together and Virgil goes to hell with him on a special journey to see what it’s like they see that it is multiple circles of hell. Dante knows after a while Virgil lives here in hell on the first circle and the more and more the go in the worse it gets.
One significant event I’ve seen so far is Dante has a wife and we learn about her because she sent someone to help Dante, being Virgil. This is important at least to me because it gives us a bit of back story on Dante and I want to know more about him and how his wife died.
Dracula
Pages 29-41
Summary: As Harker prepares to leave the next morning, the innkeeper’s wife delivers an ominous warning. She reminds Harker that it is the eve of St. George’s Day, when “all the evil things in the world will have full sway.” She then puts a crucifix around his neck. Though he is a practicing Anglican who regards Catholic paraphernalia as somewhat idolatrous, Harker politely accepts the crucifix. He is somewhat disturbed by this exchange, however, and his uneasiness increases when a crowd of peasants gathers around the inn as he boards the coach. They mutter many “queer words” at Harker, which, with the help of his dictionary, he translates to mean “were-wolf” or “vampire.” As the coach departs, everyone in the crowd makes the sign of the cross in his direction, a gesture that a fellow passenger explains is meant to protect him from the “evil eye.
This is really important because you really get a feel for what is to come in terms of the count and what everyone else has heard or experienced so now that reader can expect the same
A Clockwork Orange
30-40
The boys rough up an old man until he vomits up blood. They get into a scuffle with a rival gang, until they hear sirens and scatter. They end up going to a cinema, where they steal a car. They spend some time messing with normal people and then go to a cottage in the countryside. They go to the door and ask for a telephone and water, but then step inside. There are a wife and a husband, who is a writer. Alex reads from a manuscript called “A Clockwork Orange”, and then rips it up. They beat up the husband and then rape his wife, trash the house, and then they flee.
This portion is important because it shows how violent the boys are, and introduces the title of the book.
1984
13-20
Winston while watching the 2 minutes of hate start to escalate while goldstein is being booed at and hissed by the brainwashed people. Tensions rise very quickly while goldstein is a “jerk”, he makes a valid point through his speech, While things are being thrown at him and the crowd losing it completely. Then big brother steps in and “handles him” an people start praising Big brother like a cult. While this is going on Winston has a revelation that he might be on goldsteins side. After its over he goes back to his cubical and starts unintentionally writing “DOWN WITH BIG BROTHER”.
A significant fact:pg 18 How the people are acting is exactly how people would be in a cult or in other words fanatics. Losing the ability to think for themselves. Sheep to the Big Brother
Title- Jane Eyre
Pages- 34-81
Summary: Jane has moved to her school. She starts off on a rough start. The teachers were told she was a liar. She also found out her aunt sent her there and did not pay money to do so. Her teacher is mean. She disciplined a student named Helen. Helen and Jane become friends. I feel this is significant because we now have a person who supports Jane. We can see the relationship building and a person who is going to help her through the story.
All quite on the western front

One important thing is when it says how every man will bite at the opportunity of power.
