Title: Jane Eyre
Pages: 111-140
Summary: In this section Jane is being punished as a liar. She is angry with this punishment, but Helen reassures Jane it is not her fault. Helen then gets punished for having her room disorganized, but takes the punishment without complaints. I think it is significant to note that Jane may be learning from Helen. She is showing Jane that she should not let others affect her and to be her own person.
Theme- What I’ve gotten so far is that Dante is a very fair person and he believes in justice. He believes in a fair trial for everyone. He seems to respect Divine authority at the moment and I don’t know how to put that as a theme but what I’ve gotten so far is he is very fair and wants a trial for everyone and he seems to have a good sense of morality.
Literary Elements- Well right off the bat the book is in first person point of view when he uses I and myself. Like I said in my first statement I think the theme has something to do with morality and justice for all. They did use a piece of symbolism earlier at the start of the book when they brought up something about a she wolf and it was symbolism for Dante being something greater than he thinks he is. It symbolizes that Dante is a lot more powerful than he knows and the dude named Virgil tells him about how fair and moral he is.
Characters- The characters that we have come to know are the main character as Dante. He is a poet who stumbles into a forest in a midlife crisis of sorts and meets his favorite poet Virgil who is the other main character at the moment. He is a dead poet going to take Dante on a journey through hell, purgatory, and heaven. There haven’t been many main characters we did get to see a lot of historical figures in the different circles of hell and a lot of great minds.
Quote/ Response- “All hope abandon, ye who enter here.”
This quote is important to me because it really symbolizes hell and what it represents. Hell is supposed to represent eternal punishment; it makes you lose all hope it makes you lose feeling. The context behind this quote is that Dante and Virgil were going to enter the ferry unto hell and Dante spotted that sign. I think Dante felt some remorse that people were in hell but realized later that these people deserved it and it was the fair punishment.
Dracula
Pages: 42-101
Summary: On August 10, Mina awakens to find Lucy’s bed empty. She goes outside to find Lucy and sees her in the churchyard, reclining on her favorite bench with a dark figure bending over her. As Mina approaches, the figure looks toward her, exposing a pale face and gleaming red eyes. By the time Mina reaches Lucy, however, the figure is gone. Lucy is apparently asleep but gasping for breath, so Mina wraps her in a shawl and leads her home. When Lucy wakes, Mina finds “two little red points like pin-pricks” on her friend’s neck, and decides that she must have accidentally pricked Lucy while helping her pin her shawl.
This is a turning point for the book because. rather than just having accounts of the count they are witnessing him first hand as just a figure. But later on, the count will definitely be more prominent
all quite on the western front

Title: The Picture of Dorian Gray
pages: 58-69
Summary: Sibyl confides to her mother all her happiness for the relationship with Dorian Gray, whom she calls “Prince Charming”, not knowing his real name. Sibyl’s family is poor and she and her mother work in the theater to pay back the owner of the theater, Mr. Isaacs. Sibyl’s brother, Jim, is leaving for Australia in search of fortune. Sibyl and Jim go to the Park together, and they talk about Australia and Dorian Gray. Jim is worried and he would not want to leave because he is afraid that Dorian might do her any wrong. Back at home Sibyl goes to rest. Before leaving, Giacomo reaffirms his promise to kill Dorian if he should “hurt” his sister and insistently gets her mother to promise to protect her.
Significant event: Jim’s departure.
