The book im reading is, The PIcture Of Dorian Gray, and so far the artist Basil Howard grows an unhealthy obsession with Dorian, and his ‘artistic features’. Dorian and Basil feel like it was destined for them to meet, and Basil claims that Dorian is his only way of being happy, Dorian is his only form of art. Basil describes Dorian Gray as a greek hero or mythological figure, from such beautiful facial structures. One day, Lord Henry upsets and disrupts Dorian’s peace with speech by transient nature of “beauty and youth”. After hearing this, Dorian curses is portrait, which he believes that one day, it will remind Henry and Basil the beauty they have lost. (pages 1-23.
a clockwork orange, pg 3-21

A Doll’s House pages 1-11
The first thing I picked up from the story is the time period. Nora, the mother, is looked as inferior compared to her husband. Her husband works at the bank and is expecting a promotion come the new year and Nora enjoys the luxuries she will soon be able to afford. Back in this time, nobody wanted to owe debts. Helmer, the husband, refused to take out loans and tries to tell Nora to not spend as much, but continues to give her money as a sign of love. The family is preparing for Christmas and Nora has a guest. An old friend, Mrs.Linde, comes to her door. She is looking for a job after being widowed and is hoping Helmer can help. Mrs.Linde suggests that Nora knows no struggles and Nora takes offense to that, so Nora tells her a secret. She tells Mrs.Linde that when Helmer was sick, Nora took out a loan to pay for a trip to cure him. Women can not take out loans without their husband’s approval, so Nora forged her father’s name to take out the loan. Her secret shows how Nora can be independent and is not as dim-witted as her husband and others make her seem, making the story start to seem as if this secret is going to play a major role in the plot.
the title of my book is alice in wonderland. i read pages 1-15 today. alice sits by a riverbank a white rabbit runs past her, knowing he will be late. pulls his watch out runs across the field and down a hole. she follows the rabbit and falls deep down into the hole.falling slowly for a long time. she sees the walls are covered with cupboards and shelves. she takes a jar from the shelves, but the jar is empty. she starts talking to herself about how far down she is. one significant event is whenever she fell down the rabbit hole chasing after the rabbit
Alice in Wonderland
9-17
Alice followed the rabbit into the very long, dark well and then finally came to the end, Alice then found herself in a long hall, then approached a table with a key on it, Alice found a small door about 15 inches high and the key fit but Alice was too large to fit, so Alice went back to the table to find a bottle that says “drink me” on it, which was not there before. Alice then continues to look and see if the bottle says “poison” on it, after Alice realizes it does not say “poison” on it she begins to drink it. When Alice drinks it she shrunk to the size to fit through the 15 inch door. When Alice gets to the door she realizes she left the key on the table. When Alice gets back to the table she realizes she is too small to reach the key on the table. Alice’s eyes see a box underneath the table that she can clearly reach. In the box was a cake that says “eat me” Alice took one bite to see if she would grow or shrink even more. Soon Alice realized she stayed the same, so she ate the whole cake. To be continued……..
One significant event from my read today was that Alice drank the mystery drink and shrank. I think this is significant because obviously the rabbit knows Alice is there and he sat the drink out for her to drink so she would be able to enter the garden.
The Idiot
25-45
In late November a train arrives from Warsaw to St Petersburg. We meet Prince Myshkin in these two chapters. He is returning home to Russia after being in Switzerland for 4 years. He had seizures and was being treated for ¨idiocy”.
Prince returns home to Russia after 4 years
Dracula
34-46
He feels trapped in Dracula’s castle, Dracula tells him he is only allowed to wright three letters, one saying his work is almost finished, the next that he was leaving in the morning, and the third we left the castle and has arrived at Bistritz. He tries to find a way out and has to find a way before June 29, since that’s when he believes the Count will kill him. He climbs over to the Counts room the morning he is to leave and finds the Count looking younger with blood covering his mouth and teeth.
The Count looks younger than before.
The narrator also didn’t seem he really cared about the death of his mother
Silas Marner starts out in old english countryside land where peasants work in the fields and there were weavers who were outsiders to the peasants that were very lonely. Silas Marner is a weaver that lives in a cottage in Raveloe the fictional village. the boys of the village believe that silas has special powers such as being able to cure rheumatism by invoking the devil. pages 1 through 9
My title of the book I am reading is The Stranger. l read about 10 pages today. The narrator got a telegram that his mother had died so he goes down and attends her funeral. But he seems very confused and doesn’t really know what is going on. Then he meets up with his crush Marie which was a former co worker of his. They really seemed like they enjoyed each others company. And then he just seemed to observe the things around him. A significant event from the day’s reading was that I seemed very focused and knew what was going on exactly and the clues the narrator left behind.
All quiet on the western front. pages 4-24.
to start off the narrator (paul baumer) tells us about how they were fighting on the front lines for 2 weeks . they he goes to tell us about the small group they have formed together.he then explains the war is tough , they barely get sleep and very little food. they sent 150 troops to fight and only 80 came back and they are all now excited to get a lot of food because the cook has cooked enough food for 150 men. this group tat has just came back from the western front is now having a great time. it states they are sitting in comfy chairs reading newspapers and smoking for hours. paul then brings up how his schoolmaster convinced some of them to go to war and one person who was hesitant to go (joseph balm) was one of the first to die. they first praise him but now they despise him for persuading them to go to the army and fight in the war.
i think the opening scene is a significant event. they are coming back from fighting on the front line for 2 weeks and they have lost almost half of their men.
Fathers and Sons read the 1st and 2nd chapter (pg1-8). Introduces the 2 sons Arkady, and Mitya . Describes the setting in Russia. In the story the narrator takes breaks from the story and talks directly to the reader. Arkady brings a friend of his home with him from the university.
Good luck on Day 1 of research. Please remember to include the pages you read today. I’m looking forward to reading your responses.
And another significant event was that he couldn’t remember his mother’s age and he didn’t really seem to care that she had passed away.
So far in Clockwork Orange, the reader is introduced to Alex and his droogs, who all terrorize in the night and start off at the milk mesto which they drink drugged milk. I can already sense the direction the story is going, where Alex is the only knowledgeable and human like person in the entire story, despite being this glamorous psychopath. The only real notable things are the starts of crimes within the beginning of the story.
Getting my book soon then im gonna read a whole lot
